Documentation-Driven Development (DDD)

Documentation-Driven Development

The philosophy behind Documentation-Driven Development is a simple: from the perspective of a user, if a feature is not documented, then it doesn't exist, and if a feature is documented incorrectly, then it's broken.

  • Document the feature first. Figure out how you're going to describe the feature to users; if it's not documented, it doesn't exist. Documentation is the best way to define a feature in a user's eyes.
  • Whenever possible, documentation should be reviewed by users (community or Spark Elite) before any development begins.
  • Once documentation has been written, development should commence, and test-driven development is preferred.
  • Unit tests should be written that test the features as described by the documentation. If the functionality ever comes out of alignment with the documentation, tests should fail.
  • When a feature is being modified, it should be modified documentation-first.
  • When documentation is modified, so should be the tests.

The pain and anguish of using IndexedDB: problems, bugs and oddities

This gist lists challenges you run into when building offline-first applications based on IndexedDB, including open-source libraries like Firebase, pouchdb and AWS amplify (more).

Note that some of the following issues affect only Safari. Out of the major browsers, Chrome's IndexedDB implementation is the best.

Backing file on disk (WAL file) keeps growing (Safari)

When this bug occurs, every time you use the indexeddb, the WAL file grows. Garbage collection doesn't seem to be working, so after a while, you end up with gigabytes of data.

Random exceptions when working with a large number of indexeddb databases (Safari)

Steps:

  • Add Activation Code
  • Click Manage Proxy
  • Click Manual proxy
  • Add localhost in hostname

Activation Code:

How to recover a deleted branch
## Pre-requisite: You have to know your last commit message from your deleted branch.
git reflog
# Search for message in the list
# a901eda HEAD@{18}: commit: <last commit message>
# Now you have two options, either checkout revision or HEAD
git checkout a901eda
# Or
git checkout HEAD@{18}
#!/usr/bin/env ruby
# this scripts acts as a wrapper for a little daemon that reads a fifo;
#
# If called without allready running it starts a background daemon and
# downloads the argument, then proceeds to watch the fifo for more.
#
# We esnure that the script is only running once and only one dl at a time.
FIFO = "/home/ha/.ytfifo"

Normalisation by evaluation for the simply-typed lambda calculus, in Agda
-- A simply-typed lambda calculus, and a definition of normalisation by
-- evaluation for it.
--
-- The NBE implementation is based on a presentation by Sam Lindley from 2016:
-- http://homepages.inf.ed.ac.uk/slindley/nbe/nbe-cambridge2016.pdf
--
-- Adapted to handle terms with explicitly typed contexts (Sam's slides only
-- consider open terms with the environments left implicit/untyped). This was a
-- pain in the ass to figure out.
